Just Watch Black Swan
I walked out of this movie. The plot crawls, depicting a young woman suffering a prolonged mental break. For a better treatment of this subject with more interesting imagery, watch Black Swan.
The acting in this movie is convincing, but the behavior of the characters is erratic, confusing, and unnatural. Everyone is doing their best with the material they were given, but the script treats every character in the same way. They are all sounding the same discordant note, rendering the film into white noise rather than working in harmony.
I would’ve enjoyed this movie if anyone in it registered, or cared about our main characters’ disturbing antics. But the script only treats them as a problem when it remembers it needs to come up with a dramatic ending. Even though before the mid-way mark our spiraling main character shoots her husband’s dog out of spite. Does her husband react to this, even though they have a young child? Nope, and it blows you out of the movie as coldly as that rifle shot..
Everyone in the film acts insane all the time, so when the movie tells us, what you just saw was normal, now they are actually going insane, I didn’t buy it.
